The opening ceremony of the newly-constructed “Computer Science and Electronic Engineering building” at the Faculty of Science

Parallel to the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Science of the University of Kelaniya, a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the newly-constructed “Computer Science and Electronic Engineering building” to commence and hold the lectures of the newly introduced “Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons) Degree programme in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering” which is collaboratively offered by the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics & Computer Science together with the Departments of Finance and English Language Teaching was successfully held on the 28th of September 2017 at the premises of the Faculty of Science.

This special ceremony was participated by Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. Sarath Amunugama, the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.M. Jayawardena, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, the Chief Student Counsellor, Mr. L.A Jayatissa, the Librarian, all the Department Heads of the Faculty of Science, former Deans of the Faculty of Science, the academic staff members of the Faculty of Science including Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Non-academic staff members and many undergraduates.

The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Diploma in People Skills with Nestlé Lanka PLC

Diploma in People Skills is a unique programme offered by the Department of Marketing Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies to its undergraduates focused on soft skills development. In January 2017, Nestlé Lanka PLC; a leading multinational of Sri Lanka which is the world’s largest food and beverage company; came on board as the key delivery partner of the Diploma in People Skills. As a result during the last 06 months, the students who were elevated to the Level 2 of the Diploma in People Skills, were taught and trained at Nestlé Lanka on the modules of Collaboration, Leadership and Innovation and Personal Development. To officially mark the conclusion of their training the Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held on the 26th of September 2017 at the H.T. Sunil Shantha Auditorium, University of Kelaniya and 30 undergraduates received Certificates at this event.

The event was graced by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kelaniya, Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Dr. Ajith Medis, Head, Department of Marketing Management, Ms. Enoca Sirimanne, Vice-President – Human Resources, Nestlé Lanka PLC, Mr. Shanaka Wijeweera, Senior Manager – Learning & Training, Nestlé Lanka PLC, and Ms. Erosha Fernando, Assistant Manager – Human Resources Business Excellence, Nestlé Lanka PLC. The academic staff of Department of Marketing Management and its undergraduates also participated in this event.

A special lecture on the “Constitutionalism and Human Rights”, organized by the Department of Political Science of the University of Kelaniya was successfully held on the 27th of September 2017 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

This event was participated by Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil Chandra, the Chairman of the Research Council, Senior Prof. Upali Hettiarachchi, the Head of the Department of Economics, Prof. Yamuna Mendis, the Head of the Department of Political Science, Senior Prof. P. Athukorala, Former Dean of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Senior Prof. A.M. Nawarathne Bandara, the Former Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Peradeniya, the academic staff members of the Department of Political Science of the University of Kelaniya and many undergraduates.
