Workshop on “Making Short Films for Undergraduates”

A Workshop on “Making Short Films for Undergraduates” organized by the Arts Council and the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Kelaniya was successfully held on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd of September 2017 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This workshop was held with the intention of educating the competitors who are going to present short films for the Performances, Media, Arts and Literary Competition named “Kalana-2017”.

This workshop was participated by Senior Lecturer Aruna Lokuliyana, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Senior Prof. Ariyaratne Athugala of the Department of Mass Communication & the Chairman of the Arts Council, Senior Lecturer Priyankara Ratnayake, Lecturer Rukmal Nirosh, the Resource persons including Mr. Rukshan Subasinghe, Ms. Lanka Bandaranaike, Mr. Gayan Madusanka, R.D.T.D. Ranepura, Ms. Randi Kaluarachchi, Ms. Ajantha Wijewardhane, Mr. Kaushalya Pathirana, L.P. Edirisinghe, Ms. Nayani Chandrasinghe, Ms. Ileka Ruwanpathirana and many undergraduates.

Introduction of reusable bag and Signing of a MoU – CSS & the Committee for Developing Guidelines for Chemical Waste management

Introduction of reusable bags as an alternative to shopping/polythene bag by Center for Sustainability Solutions to the University and Signing of a MoU with INSEE, Ecocycle on lab waste management were successfully held on the 31st of August 2017 at the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya.

These events were participated by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice chancellor, W.M. Karunaratne, the Registrar, Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, the Dean, Faculty of Medicine and the Chairperson of the Committee for Developing Guidelines for Chemical Waste management, Prof. Rohana Luxman Piyadasa, the Director of the Communication and Media Unit, Dr. U.P.K. Epa, the Director of the Center for Sustainability Solutions (CSS), Mr. Sanjeewa Chulakumara, the General Manager of INSEE – Ecocycle, Mr. Najila Ranganath, the Sales & Marketing Manager of INSEE – Ecocycle, Mr. Sachith Jayathilaka, the Assistant Manager – Sales of INSEE – Ecocycle, members of the CSS, members of the Committee for Developing Guidelines for Chemical Waste management and other Academic staff members.

The inauguration ceremony of MBM in Marketing -II Intake

The inauguration ceremony of Master in Business and Management (MBM) in Marketing, (II Intake) offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Management studies, University of Kelaniya was successfully held on 27th of August 2017 at the CPMG Hall of Ananda Patabendige Building in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies (FCMS).

The event was graced by Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, the Dean of the FCMS as the Chief Guest and the keynote address was delivered by Mr. Shirley Mahendra, General Manager – Marketing of Lanka Wall Tile Plc. Prof. A. Jayamaha, the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Dr. Ajith Medis, the Head of the Department of Marketing Management, Dr. W.M.C.B. Wanninayake, the Coordinator of the MBM in Marketing, the Academic staff members of FCMS and the new postgraduate students were present at this occasion.

Preliminary discussions on hosting the Indu – Sri Lanka Hindi Conference

Ms. Rajashree Behera, the Director of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) and the representatives of the ICC in Colombo, Sri Lanka, called upon Prof. D. M. Semasinghe, the Vice Chancellor on the 30th August 2017 at the Vice Chancellor’s office.

The preliminary discussion was held on the Indu – Sri Lanka Hindi Conference which is scheduled to be held on the 13th of September 2017 with the collaboration of the Department of Hindi Studies of the University of Kelaniya and the ICC in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The discussion was attended by Dr. Shirin Qureshi, Hindi teacher of the ICC, Prof. Lakshman Seneviratne, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Senior Prof. Upul Ranjith Hewavithanagamage, the Head of the Department of Hindi Studies, Senior Lecturer Anusha Salwathura of the Department of Hindi Studies, Prof. Durga Prasad Singh, Chair Professor in Hindi of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Ms. Subashini Handy, the cultural officer of the ICC.
