Dr. Ravindra Dissanayake has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Think-Tank of Brand-Sri Lanka” Project

Dr. Ravindra Dissanayake, Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing Management, the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies of the University of Kelaniya, has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Think-Tank of “Brand-Sri Lanka” project.

The National Budget of 2017 has proposed that the government undertake a Global Marketing Campaign to Boost the Exports, Tourism and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The Department of National Planning of the Ministry of National Policies & Economic Affairs, requested the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) to coordinate with relevant stakeholder institutions to formulate a strategic global marketing campaign to boost Sri Lanka’s Brand image. This exercise included the main pillars of export, tourism and foreign investments. The stakeholder committee, which consists of different institutions and professional bodies, proposed Dr. Ravindra Dissanayake as the Chairman to its strategic committee to head the Think-Tank of strategizing “Brand Sri Lanka” project. The appointment was done by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board as the coordinating body of the project.

Dr. Ravindra Dissanayake obtained his Bachelor of Business Management in Marketing (Special) from the University of Kelaniya, Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the European University, Switzerland. He is currently reading for another doctoral program (PhD) at the Taylor’s University in Malaysia. Dr. Ravindra Dissanayake is a brilliant scholar who has done much research in Brand Management, Consumer Behavior, Service Marketing and Business Case Studies. He serves for many reputed corporate sector organizations as a consultant in business development, brand building and strategic planning whilst being a trainer in professional soft skills and executive development programs.

Indo-Sri Lanka Hindi Conference – 2017

Indo Sri Lanka Hindi Conference – 2017 collaboratively organized by the Department of Hindi Studies of the University of Kelaniya, the Indian High Commission and the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) to commemorate the Hindi Day which falls on the 14th of September and to enhance the “Hindi E-Learning: Identity and possibilities” was successfully held on the 13th of September 2017 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The launch of an E- Journal titled “E- Prayas” was initiated by the ICC and the two books named “Pap – Punya Ewan Kusal -Akusal” and “Hatharaman Handiyee Hitagath Minisaa” translated by Senior Prof. Upul Ranjith Hewavithanagamage, the Head of the Department of Hindi Studies were also launched on that day.
This conference was participated by Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil Chandra, Director of the Research Council, Prof. Patrick Ratnayake, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Senior Prof. Upul Ranjith Hewavithanagamage, the Head of the Department of Hindi Studies, the representatives of the Indian High Commission and Indian Cultural Centre, lecturers of the Department of Hindi Studies, undergraduates of the Department of Hindi Studies, schoolteachers and many schoolchildren who study Hindi language at school.

Visit from Shinshu University, Japan

Prof. Kiyoshi Tanaka of the Faculty of Engineering & Director, Global Education Center (International Office) and Dr. (Ms) Mingzhi Chua, Assistant Professor, Global Education Center attached to the Shinshu University of Japan called upon the Vice Chancellor Prof. D.M. Semasinghe on the 13th of September 2017 at the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya.
The discussions were held on the proposed MoU with Shinshu University, agreements for academic staff & student exchange and collaborative research. Specially, the attention was drawn to engineering studies. The Shinshu University is a comprehensive national university having 8 faculties and 7 graduate schools. The main campus is located in the Nagano Prefecture in Central Japan.
This event was participated by Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. B.M. Jayawardena, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. S.R.D. Kaligamudali, Prof. Neelakshi C. Premawardhena, Director of the Centre for International Affairs, Mr. W.M. Karunaratne, the Registrar and several other lecturers of the Faculty of Science.

Annual Education USA University Fair – 2017

Annual Education USA University Fair – 2017 which is hosted collaboratively by the Education USA Advising Center at the United States & Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, organized by the Research & Services Centre (RSC) of the Faculty of Science, the University of Kelaniya was successfully held on the 12th of September 2017 at the Faculty Board Room (B1 350). The objective of this programme was to give an awareness of the Degree programmes offered by USA universities for Sri Lankan University students. The participants could gain accurate, comprehensive & current information about the applying methods for USA universities.

This programme was participated by Ms. Mary Parsons- the Associate Director of International Student Affairs at University of Missouri-Kansas City, Mr. Patrick Morrison- Assistant Director- International Student Services University of South Dakota, Mr. Amir Sadafi- the Assistant Director of Graduate International Recruitment at the University of Colorado Boulder, Prof. Susantha Herath of the Department of Computer Science at St. Cloud State University, Mr. Ben Pingar of the University of Wisconsin, Dr. D.M.S.D. Silva, the Director of the RSC of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. S.R.D. Kalingamudali, other academic staff members of the Faculty of Science, undergraduates and postgraduate candidates.
